Cascade SIGGRAPH Board MeetingNovember 10, 2006 Minutes by Fran ZandonellaPlease send all corrections to Fran Z.  LocationBeau Thai, 730 NW 21st Ave., in PortlandTime: 1:00p – 2:00 pm  AttendeesJeff Borg, Demetra Gilmore Arnett, Fran Zandonella, Andrew Dennis, Herc Silverstein, Michael Smith.  MinutesMinutes from August (8/17/06), September (9/7/06), and October (10/20/06) have not been approved.  Old Business Health InsuranceAndrew hasn’t had the chance to look into it yet.* Andrew will look into the Health Insurance issue.  BannersWe’d like to have a banner that fits under a table. * Demetra will send the banner layout file to Michael.  She will coordinate with him on the format needed.  VolunteersWe need volunteers!!  We need a volunteer coordinator! * Fran will write up descriptions for webmaster and membershippositions and send it to Jeff & the Board. * Everyone needs to get their volunteer list to Jeff.   New BusinessNone. Committee ReportsEvents General Event InfoWe generated some ideas for future raffles – pre-registrationgets you a raffle ticket, and a person can pay extra for extratickets.* Demetra will send Andy an example of a user interface forpre-registration.   New SIGGRAPH Chapter in Corvalis?At the November Event, Jeff met some people who would like to do an event in Corvalis.  They have connections with one oftheir professors who may be able to give a presentation.* Jeff will find out who the people in Corvalis know for presentations.* Michael will contact the Corvalis people about having themhost a BYOA meeting in Corvalis.  Past EventNovember Meeting (was October), AutoDesk Tour (presented by 3DV), November 1, 2006Producer: Chris Hale Thank you, Chris, for all your hard work! We had 140 people attend this event.The cost of the meeting was free (paid by Autodesk).We got 8 new memberships.  We had 3 renewals.  We had at least 22 members show up.  (It was hard to tellbecause so many people showed up at once.) We didn’t have a pre-Event slideshow for this event becauseAutodesk had one.  However, we do want to have them for otherevents.  They are easy to put together. The venue was wonderful, though expensive.  (Note, we didn’t payfor it.)  The place was packed, and there was a lot of food. We had a raffle and gave away 2 one gigabyte flash drives. Wacom was there, and they have offered to come to a new event.They are willing to donate a tablet for a future raffle. * Demetra needs a volunteer to enter some information from cards.  Upcoming Events  November Meeting, Social with IXDA / CHIFOO / SIGGRAPH / ASIFA, November 20, 2006 5:30pmLucky Lab in NW PortlandProducer: Will Palumbo The date for this meeting is November 20th at the Lucky Lab at 5:30pm.The other groups have been invited.  We discussed possible network topics.* Demetra will send out an announcement ASAP.  December Meeting – No meeting planned (due to Holidays) January Meeting, CG Social w/Showing the Space-Time Animation Competition, or Game Studio?January TBD, 2007Producer: Kristen We need to set a date for the CG Social meeting.  We discussed possible locations for this meeting.  Maybe at Zaytoon’s?  If we could rent the upstairs, we might be able to request it to be all non-smoking. This CG Social requires a screen for showing the animation. We might also hold another meeting late in the month.  Thiswill be discussed at the Programming Meeting.  February Meeting, Sony PresentsFebruary TBD, 2007Producer: Patrick Coan SESI might be interested in sponsoring this meeting.Fran made a contact with a sales rep there. We might tie in some job resume review promotions. The LA Chapter is having a Sony meeting for theirNovember meeting.  Ideas for Upcoming MeetingsKen Perlin, Professor at NYU Media Research LabNothing to report.  Possible January or Spring meeting. Tom MillerDemetra has a connection to artist and CG Pioneer Tom Miller.  She will be seeing him this winter. Traveling Art Show (TAS)Producer: Ann M. & Genny Orr Nothing discussed about this at this meeting. CG Pioneer MeetingWe discussed having a CG Pioneer speak at a meeting.  One of our members(Russell?) is an “old timer” that we should tap for a future meeting. Jeff said that he gave a presentation somewhere recently.  We shouldtalk to him about presenting, and consider asking him to fill any voidsin the schedule, especially short-term ones (because he is local). * Jeff will see if he can find out the name of our local CG Pioneer.  MembershipWe now have 84 members.  Fran still needs to process the newmemberships from the November meeting.  Renewals for this monthhave gone out.  Financial ReportWe made $164.00 at the November 1 meeting.The November meeting expenses were $0. Andy hasn’t gotten the bank statement for November yet.(It is late.)* Andy will email the board with the November bank balance. Andy declares that we now have enough money to fly out a speaker. * Andy will make a budget for the year.  WebsiteFran says, “We need to get a webmaster ASAP!”* Fran will write up a description and send it to the Board. We want to load samples of local artist work onto our website. * Everyone still needs to put their web requirements on the wiki.  Next MeetingOur next proposed meeting is December 15, 2006 at 12:30 pm, Acapulco’s Gold, 2610 NW Vaughn St, in Portland The meeting adjourned at 2:00pm.
