An evening with Doug Sweetland, Director, Pixar Animation Studios
Please join us for what promises to be an exciting presentation given by Doug Sweetland, an Academy Award ® nominated Director currently working at Pixar Animation Studios. While at Pixar, he has been an animator and storyboard artist on such big hits as Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars. Sweetland was nominated for an Annie Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement for Character Animation for his work in Toy Story 2. In 2008, he wrote and directed Pixar’s short, Presto, which was nominated for an Academy Award®.
Presto tells the story of the amazing magician Presto, his rabbit Alec, and what happens onstage when a star magician’s ego provokes some clever revenge from his neglected costar. During its production, Sweetland was able to make the short from start to finish with no break in schedule. The story changed quite a bit after being green lit, from starring two likable characters to featuring the two antagonists we see in the final film. He animated one part of the film, but overall, served as writer and director, overseeing the entire production.
Sweetland will share the Story and the Development Process from this experience – come see what’s behind the magic of Presto!
